INTRODUCTION
The issue I feel passionate about is the perception of beauty/body image. I chose this issue because it’s something that I struggled with greatly growing up. For as long as I can remember, I had no confidence what so ever. I was the girl with thick glasses, and even on top of that I was snagga-toothed. I struggled with how my body looks. My weight is something that has been bothering me since the age of 13. I was really skinny and I thought my ears were huge! I wondered why I felt this way and over time ive figured it out. If I would have known the effect the media was having on me, then maybe I wouldn’t have felt this way about myself. I plan on helping motivate not only young ladies ,but young men as well to gain some confidence about their looks. This issue matters because as a teenager the way you appear to yourself through your looking-glass is important. It can determine your happiness. Through this project I hope to accomplish helping young people especially, feel more comfortable about themselves. Beauty comes is all shapes ,sizes, and even skin tones. Beauty can’t be defined by what others think. In all reality “beauty” is just a word that has over time changed and lost its real value. Its not just a problem females struggle with, and this is a proven fact. If we look a t history, at the dawn of the 20th century, in the U.S the perception of beauty/body image has been distorted, due to what media advertises, leaving teenagers anxious about how others perceive their looks, resulting with depression and low self-esteem.
