A few social norms generally speaking is to fit in. Also, trying to be beautiful by any means. Although the idea of beauty doesnt necessarily have an image, its safe to assume to just fit in and go off what you see. A value that’s in plain sight is one’s looking glass. Its often seen alot these days! Its really the way someone is influenced by others. Except this factor ties into the way you look at your self also. It deals with self image and at times someones personality. 3 other values can be culture, gender, and my favorite Generalized other. These 3 values are a foundation for my issue. Culture plays apart because, your beliefs can play apart. Regardless if you know it or not, your culture is the way your raised. This helps form you as a person. Gender can play a role. I say this mainly because women are placed on a pedestal. Lastly, generalized other is a term for cultural norms. Generally speaking, the norms come from society. They can be positive, but most times with this issue they are negative. In sociology the term norm means: the behavior/rules within a society or group. Violations with this norm would be accepting the way you look. Accepting your flaws. Being natural . No makeup.Sanction are basically punishments/ consequences for not following the norm. An informal sanction youll probally see is people often being treateded like an outcast. Bullying is also a negative sanction. Positively speaking, you may receive tons of praise and attention. This can encourage someones looking glass-self. But at the same time with the negative informal sanctions it can damage and individual. Formal sanction, can include breaking the law to a severe extent. Depending on how severe the issue/sanction is it can result in jail time. I’m sure you never thought about it,but people will do crazy things to be beautiful.
